Wiley A. Branton was a civil rights attorney and activist, who rose to prominence for representing many Black Americans facing racial discrimination and injustices in the 1950s and 1960s, including the Little Rock Nine. Branton a close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and worked closely with him during the Civil Rights Movement, where he was deeply involved in organizing marches, protests, and other actions to challenge segregation and discrimination in the South. Branton was a member of many social justice organizations including the National Bar Association.
Each year, the National Bar Association celebrates the contributions of attorney Wiley A. Branton by hosting a symposium focused on civil rights and social justice. The 2023-24 themes are Voting Rights and Affirmative Action. The Conference activities include the Annual Wiley Branton Awards Reception, Welcome Reception, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars, and a closing reception.
